5th Anniversary Concert

On Monday 23 April 2018 MiSST celebrated its 5th birthday with a gala concert at the iconic London Palladium. 250 musicians and singers from 10 London schools performed well known classics including Finlandia by Sibelius, a Mozart piano concerto and 2 movements from Beethoven’s 5 th Symphony. 2 new works, composed and conducted by Archie McMillan and Nikiri Wharton (15 yrs) were premiered. This year MiSST rewarded two of its outstanding Saturday Music School students Zack Halpin and Klaudia Mitiajew with ‘MISST Musician of the Year’ award. For their dedication and hard work both Klaudia and Zack were gifted brand new instruments. The concert was truly amazing and moving, receiving a roaring applause from proud parents, guests and staff alike.

These musicians represent the 5000 teenagers who since the inception of the charity have benefited from 3 years of classical instrumental tuition. They will were joined by guests from the English Schools Orchestra and the English Young Artists Sinfonia.

The charity provides funding to secondary schools to guarantee an entitlement for every young person to learn how to play a classical musical instrument as well as the opportunity to play and perform. Funding from the Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust, the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Dame Alice Owen Foundation has ensured that music remains a strong subject in our schools and that the provision of the arts more widely continues to be valued.

Our Patron, Nicola Benedetti works with our musicians to teach, encourage and inspire them. She is also a role model, demonstrating the importance of commitment, patience and practice if you want to achieve.
