Reporting to               Director of Music and Director of Excellence

Salary:                         £28,735                                  

                                       0.4  £11,494 + 3% Employer Pension Contribution


Days                            Friday and Saturday morning essential - remaining time more flexible

To lead on the development and implementation of MiSST’s Singing Programmes

Strategic leadership of singing – writing and developing the curriculum and resources for all singing strands

Teaching singing – within the Programmes of Excellence and agreed schools

Leading / conducting choirs – MiSST Voices and MiSST Music Academy choir

Professional development – developing a complete programme of training and support for teachers and tutors

Online and distance learning – reviewing and developing modules and courses and support materials

Duties of the Post


Strategic Leadership of Singing

Develop the 3 strands of MiSST Voices – Singing for Success, MiSST Voices at Home and the MiSST Voices - performance

Lead on the pedagogical approach to singing in all MiSST Voices strands ensuring it is built on the best practice for developing the singing with boys and girls from the age of 11


Teaching Singing

2.1       Developing a comprehensive singing curriculum that parallels the ALW Programme, which teaches through Kodāly and is underpinned by vocal exercises and vocal technique, pitch and harmony

2.2       Ensure the MiSST singing curriculum has assessment opportunities embedded and is in line with MiSST’s assessment policy

2.2       Develop a singing curriculum for students at MiSST Music Academy which incorporates sight reading, aural, technical exercises and performance, with assessment, that is parallel to a nationally recognised graded system such as ABRSM or Trinity

2.3       Teach singing to students of mixed ages at MiSST MMA and agreed schools

2.4       To provide singing tuition to small group so ensure young people have every opportunity to achieve the highest standards

2.5       Select and arrange repertoire according to need


Leading / Conducting Choirs

3.1       Leading and accompanying the MMA and other choirs through the MiSST Voices Programme

3.2       Leading students at the annual Radley Residential, building onto their vocal knowledge, understand and technique, taught through Singing for Success

3.3       Modelling and coaching within agreed schools how to lead a choir of mixed voices


Professional Development

4.1       Work with MiSST teachers and tutors to develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence to teach and model singing

4.2       Develop accessible resources in a modular format for teachers and tutors to use to develop their own singing techniques including pitch, harmony and breath control

4.3       To ensure healthy singing and vocal health is promoted in all schools


Online and Distance Learning

5.1       With other MiSST staff, review the current singing curricula and the associated resources

5.2       Further develop current resources and ensure easy accessibility on MiSST’s online platform


Work with the MiSST Team for the annual concert, other performances and the annual residential, leading on all aspects relating to singing

Undertake tasks that would be deemed reasonable within the remit of this role
