Saint Mary Magdalene joined the MiSST programme in 2015 and have made rapid progress; being selected to perform before the Brewers’ Livery Company in January 2016. The school are even planning a Grade1athon at the end of their first year.
46 MiSST students performed Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ at the 2016 MiSST Annual Concert at Goldsmiths. This was collaboration between Orchestra and our two string groups and was really successful.
Throughout the year we have encouraged our musicians to perform at all open evenings, prize giving evening and the primary school summer fair. This is often a really effective way to practise performance skills without the pressure of a concert audience.
We maintained several teacher led ensembles throughout this year such as Choir, Guitar Group, Rock School, Orchestra and String Group. There was also the addition of a year 7 string group run by Chloe Kent and peripatetic staff. Over 100 students are taking part in extra-curricular musical activities.

Story: I used to play a bit of piano at primary but I was not overly keen. However, since I have started the viola at Saint Mary Magdalene I have really enjoyed it! It’s amazing how far I have come and we have only been doing it for about a term. I have always liked the subject music and singing especially! I guess I have just always been confident. Thanks to my school and MiSST I have found myself a new passion. I chose to have my picture taken in my bedroom as that is where I practice my viola so I spend a lot of time in it!!!
