The Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST) launched in April 2013 with the belief that children and young people’s lives could be transformed through high quality music education.
The setting up of a MiSST followed the development of a successful pilot programme at Highbury Grove School, Islington, which had been transformed over several years partly through investment in music education.
MiSST now works with 8 Secondary Schools across London providing pupils with their own individual instruments and music lessons on entry, as well as the opportunity to play and perform as part of ensemble or orchestral groups on a regular basis.
Since 2013, MiSST has taken students on several international tours, organised concerts at the Barbican and Goldsmiths, University of London, and offered students the chance to perform alongside musical personalities such as Nicola Benedetti and Matthew Morrison.
In autumn 2016, MiSST took on its eight partner Secondary School, launched a Saturday Music School for our highest achieving students, and welcomed its first cohort of students to our Certificate for Music Educators course.
